Clopton, 26, a Johnson City resident formerly of Burnsville, N.C., apparently WAS performing routine daily maintenance on pinsetting equipment about 12:30 p.m. before the bowling alley, located off U.S.

Highway 11-E, was to open Friday afternoon. Clopton was kneeling directly underneath the equipment, which apparently switched on and descended, crushing his head and chest. According to owner Jim Morris, another employee, Helen Jones, was in the office making telephone calls when she heard Clopton yell for help. By the time she reached him, Morris said, he was no longer conscious, and it is assumed that he died almost instantly. The freak accident is "real uncommon," said Wayne McDaniel, manager of Holiday Lanes, who arrived on the scene later.

Hours: ROAN Mon. thru Sat. 9 to 08 CITY Sunday to 6 More marijuana located by By Evelyn Holbrook- P-C Staff Writer NEWPORT Very few marijuana patches in Upper East Tennessee escape the trained eye. Tennessee Highway. Patrol Pilot Tom Ketron.

Ketron, who has been spotting the illegal drug for eight years, said finding marijuana patches just takes "experience." After spotting the marijuana from his helicopter, Ketron leads a group of law enforcement officials in to confiscate the plants. Allen Broyles, Greeneville Alcoholic Beverage Commission agent, said this year the marijuana is growing in "different" places. Broyles, who assists Ketron in the helicopter, said the majority of it is planted alongside the mountain in smaller patches than last year. Last year, agents found patches in which about 3,000 to 5,000 plants were growing. "There is no way on earth we could find the marijuana the helicopter," said Eddie Baldwin, Johnson City ABC agent.

Ketron, Bladwin and Broyles are members of a task force which was established this year by Gov. Lamar Alexander to destroy the marijuana production across the state.
